The EU Extravaganza, a large scale outdoor cultural festival organized by the Delegation of the European Commission to China was served up in Chaoyang Park on May 23-24. The event showcases the highlights of Europe's music and cuisine. With participation of 27 EU Member States, this event offers thousands of Beijingers a unique chance to explore the richness and diversity of European culture.

This year is to celebrate 20 years since the fall the Berlin Wall and 10 years of economic and monetary union, both landmarks in bringing the people of Europe together. On the occasion of the 52nd EU Anniversary, the Delegation of the European Commission to China invited thousands of guests to celebrate the EU's birthday.

On April 1 2009, the European Commission and its Delegation in China celebrated the start of the First Intake of the Science and Technology Fellowship Programme China. 30 outstanding young researchers from 12 different European countries were welcomed by European Commissioner for Multilingualism, Leonard Orban and Ambassador Serge Abou. The Fellows will attend 6 months language and culture training followed by 18 months research in top-class Chinese academic and scientific establishments.

Hundreds of guests flocked at the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art on 6 December, 2008 to the gala evening of the First EU Film Festival in China. From December 1 to December 20, 2008, the first annual EU Film Festival in China will take place in Beijing. This event is co-organized and co-financed by the Delegation of the European Commission to China and the French Embassy in Beijing. All 27 EU member states have been invited to showcase one recent, popular and successful film and such a wide and diverse selection will enable the general public to discover new faces of European cinema.

METP Gala Dinner

31 October 2008:METP Grand Gala
On the occasion of her visit to China, EU Commissioner in charge of Budget and Financial Programming, Dalia Grybauskaite attended the EU-China Managers Exchange and Training Programme (METP) Grand Gala on 31 October 2008. METP celebrated the graduation of 68 participants from its second training intake and the opening of its third intake. More than 250 guests attended the event at the Sofitel Wanda Beijing.

President of the European Commission, H.E. Mr. Jose Manuel Barroso visited China between the 23 - 26 October on the occasion of the 7th ASEM Summit which was held in Beijing. President Barroso, along with Heads of State and of Government from 43 Asian and European countries, attended the Summit which discussed global challenges faced by both regions, with a particular focus on the current financial crisis. The China-EU School of Law was officially inagurated by President Barroso and China's Vice-Premier, Li Keqiang on October 23 at the CUPL. Other major activities included bilateral meetings with China's President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao at the Great Hall of the People and delivering a keynote speech at the National School of Administration.
